So, my little boy, like most, loves trains.  The problem is that we right now don’t have any at home, which will thankfully change after Christmas.  Whenever we go somewhere that has trains, he never wants to leave.  Last week we spent a few days at my parents, and the first thing he asked for when getting up in the morning was trains.

Well, yesterday my sitter was sick.  Having no one else to ask, and really needing to teach, Josh took off half of the day to watch Caleb.  We met and traded vehicles, and I headed to work.  Later, I found out about their day.  Here it was:

1.  Go to Mardels and play with the train table for an hour.

2.  Leave to do more shopping, with Caleb constantly asking “More trains Daddy?  Play trains?  Go back to train store?  Please trains Daddy.  Play trains?  Go back play trains?  More trains?”

3.  Get home and remember that Pleasant Hill has a caboose parked by the tracks in downtown.  So they visit the caboose and take pictures.

4.  While getting ready to leave, a real train passes.  Happy day!!

5.  Get home and watch Thomas the Train videos and YouTube.  Hmmm, do you think he likes trains?

Josh and the buckJosh and the buckI am so proud of my hubby.  Last weekend, when hunting, he got a doe, and then a ten-point buck!!  His first buck ever!!  Now we will have about 150 lbs. of deer meat for our deep freezer.

Ok, I like Nascar.  I like to watch the race every Sunday.  I like to listen to the commentators, the interviews, and the conflict.  Some people think that racing in boring, or backwoods and country.  No.  You can now understand what the drivers are saying during interviews.  :)  (Meaning that most of them are from states that do not have southern drawl accents.)  But, I was raised going to the races.

I was four years old at my first race, I-70 Speedway.  I somehow fell asleep during the race.  Yes - during the loud engines, the announcements, oh, and a fiery wreck.  As I got older, we would still go to different races, the entire family.  I remember that once we bet M&Ms on which car would be the loser.  We liked going to different races.  Once, when my mom and oldest sister were gone, Dad took Leslie & I, along with my Uncle Dean, to a sprint car race somewhere in Kansas.  We got back in the middle of the night, and it was great!

A few years ago, I was able to go to my first Nascar race, at the Kansas Speedway.  If you have not ever gone to a big race, you need to.  It is a little community there!  They have trailers with driver memorabilia, sponsor trailers, activities like changing a tire, and so forth.  So much to do and see.  I had to pick a favorite driver, and I picked Kyle Busch, because he is a Hendrick driver, so a teammate of my husband’s favorite driver, Jimmie Johnson.  Next year I have to change drivers, because Kyle Busch is changing teams, and changing car types - and I must cheer for a Chevy.  Who will it be?  I believe Dale Jr., since he will no longer be racing for beer.

This summer Caleb went to his first race.  It was at a dirt track in Wheatland, Missouri, and we watched modifieds.  He loved it!!  All the noise, and seeing racecars!!  He and daddy would say “Ready, Set, Go!” at the beginning of each start or restart.

All this to say, racing will always be a family event for us.  Even if it is family go-cart racing.  Oh, and what am I doing right now?  Waiting for the race to start.
